The Family Medicine Residency Program at Coral West Community Hospital is designed for resident-physicians who want broad clinical training in a supportive, community-focused environment. As an academic community hospital, Coral West is committed to developing family physicians who are clinically confident, ethically grounded, and prepared to care for diverse patient populations across a wide range of settings.

 

Our resident-physicians are active members of the care team. With close faculty mentorship, progressive responsibility, and meaningful patient relationships, they build the judgment, professionalism, and versatility needed for independent practice.

​Welcome to the Family Medicine Residency Program at Coral West Community Hospital.

Family medicine plays a vital role in improving the health of individuals, families, and communities. Our program is designed to provide resident-physicians with a strong clinical foundation, meaningful continuity experiences, and the support needed to grow into thoughtful, compassionate, and capable physicians.

 

At Coral West, resident-physicians train in an environment that values service, accountability, mentorship, and teamwork. We are committed to helping each learner develop sound clinical judgment, strong communication skills, and the confidence to care for patients across the full spectrum of family medicine.

Curriculum and Clinical Training

The Family Medicine Residency Program is a three-year, ACGME-accredited program.

Training is designed to provide comprehensive experience across inpatient, outpatient, and community-based settings. Resident-physicians develop the knowledge and clinical judgment needed to care for patients across the lifespan while working as part of an interdisciplinary team.

 

Core areas of training include:

  • Outpatient and clinic-based medicine

  • Inpatient and hospital-based medicine

  • Emergency medicine

  • Critical care medicine

  • Urgent care medicine

  • Geriatrics

  • Pediatrics

  • Neonatology

  • Surgery

  • Musculoskeletal and sports medicine

  • Obstetrics and gynecology

  • Internal medicine subspecialties

  • Psychiatry and behavioral health

  • Community medicine

  • Health systems management

  • Elective rotations

A Community-Based Learning Experience

Resident-physicians at Coral West train in a setting where care is personal, practical, and community-centered. The program emphasizes continuity, cultural responsiveness, collaboration, and compassionate patient care.

Program Requirements

Candidates should meet the program’s educational eligibility requirements and be prepared to demonstrate academic readiness, professionalism, and commitment to family medicine.

 

Eligible applicants may include:

  • Graduates of a School of Medicine in the United States or Canada accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education

  • Graduates of a College of Osteopathic Medicine in the United States accredited by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation

  • Graduates of medical schools outside the United States or Canada who meet applicable eligibility requirements for entry into U.S. graduate medical education

Application Process

Applications to the Family Medicine Residency Program are accepted through ERAS and The NRMP Match during the annual Match application season. When searching for our program in the ERAS or NRMP portals, applicants should look for our hospital’s legal name: Westchester General Hospital. The program is listed under the hospital’s legal name rather than Coral West Community Hospital.

 

Our program follows the application timeline, policies, and required application materials established through the ERAS and NRMP Match process.

Resident Compensation and Benefits

Coral West Community Hospital offers a competitive compensation and benefits package designed to support resident-physicians throughout training.

 

Current annual resident stipend levels:

  • PGY-1: $45,429.50

  • PGY-2: $47,542.50

  • PGY-3: $49,655.50
