Radiology

Position Summary

To prepare, measure, and administer radiopharmaceuticals in diagnostic and therapeutic studies, utilizing variety of equipment and following prescribed procedures.

Essential Responsibilities
  1. Prepares stock solutions of radiopharmaceutical materials, calculates doses, and administers doses, under direction of physician.

  2. Performs diagnostic studies on patients as prescribed by physician, using cameras to detect radiation emitted and to produce image of organ on photographic film.

  3. Measures radioactivity, using dose calibrator.

  4. Follows radiation safety techniques in use and disposal of radioactive materials.

  5. Participates in QC, safety, and infection control studies as assigned.

  6. May be required to vary shifts and/or weekend rotation as the needs of the department dictate.

  7. May include overtime if approved by Director.

  8. May be crossed trained in other areas where applicable.

  • Use common sense and special medical skills to care for the sick or handicapped.

  • Understand technical information from supervisors charts reference books, manuals, and labels.

  • Work fast in an emergency observing safety at all times.

  • Communicate with people when they are sick, handicapped, or nervous.

  • Change from one duty to another frequently.

  • Follow instructions exactly.

  • Record information accurately.

  • Bilingual, English/Spanish.


Physical Demands

Medium Work: Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.


Environmental Conditions

Inside: Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.


Hazards

Subject to exposure to electrical and radiant energy hazards.

Specific Vocational Preparation

Graduation from an accredited program of nuclear medicine technology.


Licenses or Certifications

To do this job, you must have the following licenses or certifications before being hired:

  • Current Florida Radiologic Technologist license.

  • BLS certification


Education and Experience

To do this job, you must have the following amount of total education and/or experience.

  • Minimum of one year experience.
