Position Summary
Echo Cardiology Technicians are responsible for preparing patients and diagnostic equipment for imaging procedures. They also explain procedures to patients. After positioning the patient, an Echo Cardiology Technician applies gel that aids in sound transmission to the patient’s skin before using the diagnostic equipment to create images of the patient’s heart. Afterward, the Echo Cardiology Technician helps physicians interpret the data from the images and determines which images should be saved and which should be discarded. Echo Cardiology Technicians may also be responsible for insuring that records are kept properly.
Essential Responsibilities
Reviews patient information to determine normal heart rhythm pattern, current pattern, and prior variances.
Performs Stress test, Echocardiogram/Doppler, and the scanning of Holter Monitors.
Responsible for all the paper work relating to Stress test, Echocardiogram/Doppler, and the scanning of Holter Monitors.
Responsible for maintaining all equipment clean, in proper working order and up to date on inspection when applicable.
Responsible for imputing billing information for Stress test, Echocardiogram/Doppler, and the scanning of Holter Monitors.
Measures length and height of patient's heart rhythm pattern on graphic tape readout, using calipers, and posts information to patient records.
Answers calls for assistance from patients and inquiries concerning patients from medical staff, using intercom and call director.
Performs clerical duties as needed to include filing, copying, answering phones and scheduling of patients, etc.
Follows all safety standards in relation to patient care, lifting and protection from environmental hazards. Reports all injuries and unsafe practice to immediate supervisor. Reports all safety hazards to the safety committee.
Demonstrates ability to carry out all assignments and procedures as offered according to policy and procedure manual.
Manages and operates equipment’s safely and efficiently.
Demonstrates team approaches, gives sense of helping others.
Uses time effectively.
Demonstrates awareness of the need for respecting the dignity and privacy of others.
Utilizes measures to prevent infection
Occasionally may require overtime.
Performs other assigned duties as required.
Skills and Abilities
Ability to carry out oral and written instructions, and understand technical information from supervisors, charts, reference books, manuals and labels.
Uses special medical skills to care for the sick or handicapped.
Uses personal judgment and specialized knowledge to give information to people.
Communicates well. Speaks clearly and listens carefully.
Adheres to policy and procedures as set forth by the hospital.
Maintains confidentiality of patient information.
Assists patient and their families in their needs.

Record information accurately.
Bilingual preferred (English/Spanish)
Physical Demands
Medium work: Exerting up to 20 to 50 pounds of force frequently, up to 1/3 of the time to move objects. Requires walking or standing to a significant degree and requires sitting a minimal amount of time.
Environmental Conditions
Inside: Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
Hazards
Subject to exposure to infectious and contagious diseases.
Subject to exposure to blood borne pathogens.
Subject to exposure to hazardous anesthetic agents, body fluids, tissues, mucous membrane, and wastes.
Subject to hazards of flammable and explosive gases.
Reasoning Development
Be able to apply principles of logical and scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Mathematical Development
Be able to compute standard measures, weights, ratios, volumes as are common in cardiology services and vascular techniques.
Language Development
Reading: Read and understand instructions and be able to convey instructions and guidance to subordinates.
Writing: Write reports with proper format, punctuation, spelling and grammar using all parts of speech.
Speaking: Speak with poise, authority, voice control, confidence and respect using correct English in a well-modulated voice.

Data: Coordinating: Determining time, place and sequence of operations or actions to be taken on the basis of analysis of data; executing determination of and/or reporting on events.

Qualification
Education:
Must be High School graduate
Graduate from a certified institution authorized to grant Echocardiography certification.
Current CPR Certification.
Experience and Training:
Six months to one year prior training and experience in all aspect of vascular techniques thorough knowledge of echocardiography.
